A Week of Connection: ROAM Humanitarian’s Journey Across Bali

Recently, we had the opportunity to witness a meaningful six-day humanitarian initiative led by ROAM Humanitarian across Bali, Indonesia.

Throughout the week, their team spent time with local schools, foundations, families, and community leaders, sharing skills, conversation, and moments of genuine connection. Each day offered a different experience, yet the heart of the journey remained the same: working alongside communities with respect, care, and humility.

Location

Bali, Indonesia

Date

20-25 July 2026

Day 1 – Kupu-Kupu Foundation, Bangli

The journey began at Kupu-Kupu Foundation in Bangli.

The project focused on creating a dedicated storage room and repairing part of the foundation’s facilities. Volunteers worked together cutting bamboo, smoothing and weaving bamboo panels, removing deteriorated structures, and preparing the new storage area with concrete blocks.

Beyond the renovation work, the team also spent time with the children, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.

Day 2 – SD Teologi Kristen Efata

The second day was spent with the students and teachers of Efata School.

The visit opened with performances and shared activities between the students and the ROAM team, creating an atmosphere of celebration and exchange. Volunteers later worked together with several students to prepare food assistance packages for families connected to the school.

In the afternoon, the team helped improve the outdoor environment by installing synthetic grass, creating a safer and more comfortable play space for the children.

Day 3 – PAUD Kumara Dharma Shanti

At PAUD Kumara Dharma Shanti, volunteers supported several school improvement projects, including canopy installation work, painting, and site preparation.

While some volunteers focused on the renovations, others spent time with the children through games and interactive activities. The day reflected a balance between practical support and meaningful engagement with the students.

Day 4 – Bali Zoo Educational Visit

One of the most memorable days of the week was spent at Bali Zoo with children from Nusa Penida.

The ROAM team accompanied the children on a special visit to Bali Zoo, which was the first time many of them had experienced the zoo. Divided into small groups with ROAM volunteers, the children explored the zoo through an interactive animal discovery activity, learning about different species through observation, games, and conversation.

For many of the children, this was a rare opportunity to encounter wildlife that is not found on Nusa Penida, making the experience both joyful and educational. More than a day out, it became a shared experience filled with curiosity, learning, and memorable moments between the children and the volunteers.

Day 5 – Nusa Penida Coral Restoration

The initiative continued in Nusa Penida, where the focus shifted toward environmental stewardship.

Together with local conservation partners, the ROAM team participated in coral restoration activities and learned about ongoing efforts to protect the island’s marine ecosystem. The experience highlighted the important connection between healthy oceans and resilient communities.

During the visit, ROAM also provided support for local farming communities through the donation of corn shelling machines that will be distributed to villages in the area.

Day 6 – NMC Community Visit

The final day was spent at NMC, where volunteers shared time with students and their families.

The visit centered on conversation, shared activities, and community connection, creating a meaningful close to the week. Rather than a formal ending, the day felt like a gathering of friends brought together through shared experience.

A Week Centered on People

Although the activities varied from day to day, the most lasting impression was not the work itself but the relationships formed along the way.

This six-day journey was a reminder that meaningful impact is built through listening, collaboration, and human connection. We extend our sincere appreciation to ROAM Humanitarian, the volunteers, and every local community partner who welcomed the team so openly throughout the week.

Their kindness and generosity made this journey truly memorable.
